Selective Process

The Graduate Program in Economics of UFBA selects candidates for its courses in up to four modalities, namely:

Regular Master's Student

The master's degree in Economics (CME) is free, lasts for 2 years, and offers 20 vacancies annually for regular students (equally distributed among the areas of concentration of the program), according to rules established in own tender. The master's degree in economics has an academic nature and has as a prerequisite for admission that the candidate has complete higher level in any area of knowledge. The classes are given in full time and concentrated in the building of the Faculty of Economics of UFBA.
 
The regular student of the CME is selected through an annual examination conducted by the National Association of Graduate Centers in Economics (ANPEC), according to the calendar released annually on the site of the Association (http://www.anpec.org.br) and according to the area of Desired concentration by the applicant (Area 01-Economic development or area 02-applied economics).
 
The result of selective process will be expressed by arithmetic average of notes attributed to each of tests considered by program, classising approved candidates, in descending order, according to selected concentration area and obeyed the Number of vacancies. Eventual draws will be resolved, successively, by the arithmetic average of grades obtained in macroeconomics and microeconomics disciplines. After the disclosure of final result of the ANPEC contest, the applicant should be aware of the emails sent by the secretariat of the PPGE/UFBA, where all the necessary information for the registration process will be posted.

Regular PhD student

The Doctoral course in economics (CDE) is free, lasts for 4 years, and offers 12 vacancies annually for regular students (equally distributed among the areas of concentration of the program), according to rules established in own tender. The PhD in economics has an academic nature and has as a prerequisite for admission that the candidate (Brazilian or foreign) has a master's degree or certificate of graduation. The classes are given in full time and concentrated in the building of the Faculty of Economics of UFBA.
 
The selective process is separated by concentration areas and carried out in two phases:
 
AREA 01-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: PHASE I-Evaluation of the research project; PHASE II-Curricular evaluation and interview.
 
AREA 02-APPLIED ECONOMICS: PHASE I-ANPEC examination notes, pursuant to the notice; PHASE II-Curricular and project evaluation.
 
In the act of enrollment, the applicant must opt for one of the program's concentration areas and present a research project, with the clear definition of the pleaded research line. The student is not allowed, under any circumstances, to change the area or line of research defined in the Act of registration.

Foreign student

The graduate program in Economics of UFBA offers annually vacancies in the master's and doctorate degrees for foreign students from countries that maintain agreement of Cultural, scientific and technological cooperation with Brazil. To participate in the selection process, candidates should be citizens of the country with which Brazil maintains agreements, do not have permanent visas in Brazil and prove proficiency in Portuguese language. Registrations take place in the period defined by the collegiate of the PPGE. In relation to the forms of costing of these students in Brazil, candidates for foreign students of the PPGE should participate in the Student Program-graduate Agreement (PEC-PG) of CAPES, where they will compete for scholarships to stay in the country. If they are not covered with a PEC-PG scholarship, the selected students should attend the master or doctorate with their own resources, or with a scholarship/aid from their country, since the quota of scholarships of the PPGE is intended to meet the demands of the students Brazilian. The PPGE/UFBA offers, annually, 02 (two) vacancies in the Master's and 02 (two) vacancies in the doctorate. Registrations will be open in the period defined in the notice of each year.

Special student

The PPGE offers semestrally vacancies in the Special Student category, respecting the deadlines of the academic calendar of UFBA. The inscription in this modality is limited to the total of up to 04 (four) curricular components, respecting the maximum limit of up to 02 (two) curricular components per semester.
 
To participate in selection, the applicant must register at secretariat of PPGE, according to schedule provided and within the timeframe defined in academic calendar. The registration will be in accordance with semiannual offer of disciplines of PPGE, and will be conditional on payment of a fee of R$ 55.00 (55 reais). If selected, the applicant must also make a new payment, in amount of R$ 170.00 (170 reais), for the execution of registration in up to 02 disciplines.
 
The enrollment in the selected disciplines will be conditional on the offer of component in the attendance of minimum demands on the part of regular students.
